About the role:

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Chief Trade Officer is responsible for developing and implementing strategic plans for international trade operations. This includes overseeing compliance, logistics, and risk management to ensure smooth and efficient trade operations. By managing key relationships with stakeholders, the role maximizes business growth and market expansion.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement trade strategies to optimize the movement of cargo and maximize profitability.
  • Analyze market trends, competitor activities, and performance metrics (volume, budget, market share) to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Monitor and improve the performance of international trade lanes, ensuring alignment with profitability and operational efficiency.
  • Assess and manage risks associated with trade activities, including market fluctuations, geopolitical events, and regulatory changes.
  • Implement risk mitigation strategies and ensure compliance with relevant trade laws and regulations.
  • Manage partnership contracts (e.g., joint slots and buying slots) with other carriers, ensuring favorable terms and conditions for cost, quality, and service requirements.
  • Manage budgets and implement yield management strategies to ensure revenue targets and financial goals are achieved.
  • Explore and implement technology solutions to streamline trade processes and enhance efficiency.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to execute projects effectively, encouraging collaboration and innovation.

 

What they are looking for

  • At least 5 to 7 years of Senior Management experience within the Shipping, Logistics and Freight Forwarding industry.
  • Educated to a minimum of Degree on Marine Engineering, Maritime Studies, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, or equivalent.
  • Skilled in Chartering, Route Profitability Analysis, Freight Rate and Tariff Management and Supply Chain optimization for international routes.
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems.
  • Strong business and commercial and financial acumen with experience in managing a P&L, budgeting, financial planning and forecasting for the business.
  • Strong communication and relationship building skills with the ability to influence and deliver through others.
  • Proven ability to work in an international, multi-cultural environment with strong presentation, facilitation skills and excellent organizational and time management skill.
